Obituary of Martha Hahn
Please share a memory of Martha to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Martha Gash Hahn, age 94, died on October 21 in Louisville, Kentucky. Martha Jean Gash, was born in Kirkwood (Mercer Co) Kentucky to John and Corinne Gash, the oldest of seven children. Her father died when she was 12, and she took on many caretaking responsibilities for her family.
Martha graduated from Salvisa High School and attended Eastern State Teachers College. She married William Bryant (Bill) Hahn in 1951, and together they raised three children. They lived in Kentucky, North Carolina and Georgia until their retirement in Louisville. At various times Martha worked as a teacher and teachers aid in kindergarten and elementary school, and in retail sales, but her most constant vocation was homemaker, providing a place of comfort, nurture, and welcome for her husband, children and extended family. She made beautiful quilts and delicious meals. She was committed to her faith; she was an active member of Hurstborne Baptist Church since 1977.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Jeanne, and three siblings: Nancy Lou Cosby, Ada Bruce Gash, and John Gash.
She is survived by a son and daughter Douglas (Kaye) Hahn of Lexington; and Lesa (Donnie) Long of Louisville; Grandchildren: Susannah (Frank) Hahn, Devin Long Moon, Alyssa Long, Laurel Long, Avery Baggett, David Baggett; four great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Alice Gash and Joy Sweeney Gash; brother Jim (Joyce) Gash; sisters-law and brother-In-law Mieko Gash, Bob (Joanne) Hahn, Lou Ann Hahn Yeager, and multiple nieces and nephews .
All will be blessed by her memory, the warmth of her quilts, and nurture of her favorite recipes.
